Tracking your numbersAn important part of managing your two conditions is keeping an eye on your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers. These numbers will tell you when you’ve reached your target goal. Your doctor can also let you know if you need to do more to get your numbers down. We’ve created a tool to help you track your numbers and your progress. Be sure to print this out and take it to your next doctor visit. What your numbers mean Good cholesterol: High-density lipoprotein (HDL) helps to reduce the amount of bad cholesterol in the blood. The higher your level of HDL, the better. Bad cholesterol: High levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) can lead to a buildup of cholesterol in your arteries, reducing blood flow to the heart. The chart below provides information on the risks associated with different levels of blood pressure and cholesterol. Just remember, only your doctor can assess your health and decide on goal numbers that are right for you.
These numbers are general guidelines for blood pressure and cholesterol. They are based on recommendations by the National Institutes of Health and are presented here in a modified chart.
